Baltic Dry Index Rises for 2nd Day

The Baltic Exchange's dry bulk freight index, which tracks charter rates for vessels transporting dry bulk commodities, rose for a second consecutive session on Thursday, gaining 0.7% to reach 2,014 points, supported by strength in the larger vessel segment. The capesize index, reflecting rates for ships that typically carry 150,000-ton cargoes such as iron ore and coal, also advanced for a second day, climbing 2% to 2,974 points, its highest level in nearly a week. In contrast, the panamax index, which measures rates for vessels that usually carry 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, declined 1.5% to a six-week low of 1,770 points, while the supramax index edged down 0.3% to 1,205 points.
