Slovenia Trade Balance Shifts to Deficit

In February 2026, Slovenia posted a trade deficit of EUR 587.2 million, as exports declined much more sharply than imports, especially in trade with non-EU countries. Exports amounted to EUR 5.2 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 38.9%. While exports to EU member states were broadly unchanged, those to non-EU markets slumped by 56.7%, mainly due to weaker processing-related trade, which had been unusually high a year earlier. Imports reached EUR 5.8 billion, down 9.7% year-on-year, with purchases from EU partners decreasing by 1.3% and those from non-EU countries by 16.1%. Over the first two months of the year, exports fell by 32.8% and imports by 3.8%, widening the trade deficit to EUR 1.8 billion.
