President Trump on Sunday issued a renewed ultimatum to Iran, threatening strikes on civilian infrastructure if Tehran does not reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a key corridor for about one-fifth of the world’s oil and gas shipments. In an expletive-laden social media post, Trump reiterated earlier threats against critical targets across Iran, including bridges and power plants.
“Tuesday will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one, in Iran. There will be nothing like it!!!” he wrote. “Open the fuckin’ Strait, you crazy bastards, or you’ll be living in Hell — JUST WATCH.”
His comments came after U.S. forces rescued an injured airman whose fighter jet was shot down over Iran on Friday. In response, Iran’s top military commander warned that “the gates of Hell would be opened” if the United States and Israel move forward with attacks on the Islamic Republic’s energy infrastructure.
