Japan's Nikkei Gains for Third Session

The Nikkei 225 advanced 0.7% to above 53,700 on Tuesday, while the broader Topix index climbed 1% to 3,681, with the Nikkei extending its gains for a third consecutive session as investors assessed mixed signals from the Middle East conflict. US President Donald Trump reaffirmed a Tuesday deadline for Iran to reach an agreement or face strikes on civilian infrastructure, though he also indicated that talks with Tehran were making progress. Iran, however, rejected a US ceasefire proposal, insisting that an end to hostilities, the lifting of sanctions, and regional reconstruction were prerequisites for any deal. In Japan, Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi said she plans to hold talks with Iran’s leader and a separate call with Trump as part of efforts to find a path to peace. On the corporate front, notable gainers included Advantest (up 1.4%), Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (2.3%), JX Advanced Metals (1.5%), Tokyo Electron (1.3%), and Ibiden Co. (3.1%).
