Volatility is expected to remain elevated as investors await Washington’s response to Iran’s latest peace proposal, with US officials stressing that key “red lines” must be met in any deal to end the eight-week conflict.
Energy stocks led the advance, supported by higher oil prices. Shell and TotalEnergies each gained 2.5%, while BP climbed 3.4% after reporting that profits had more than doubled.
Elsewhere, corporate earnings weighed on several blue chips. Novartis slipped 2.8% after posting core operating profit and sales below forecasts. Barclays lost 0.8% as its results underwhelmed investors, and Air Liquide fell 4.4% following a revenue miss.
