Ireland Retail Sales Rebound in March

Retail sales in Ireland edged up 0.2% month-on-month in March 2026, after a 0.6% decline in February. The strongest volume gains were recorded in electrical goods (+3.3%), hardware, paints & glass (+3.0%), and other retail categories (+2.4%). The largest monthly volume declines occurred in books, newspapers & stationery (-4.2%) and in bars (-2.7%). Fuel sales were broadly unchanged in volume terms, but their value jumped 7.7%, underlining the inflationary pressures affecting the sector. On an annual basis, retail sales rose 1.6% in March 2026, building on an upwardly revised 1.3% increase in February.
