China’s Manufacturing PMI Slips Marginally in April, Signals Steady but Fragile Expansion

China’s manufacturing sector remained in expansionary territory in April 2026, though momentum eased slightly, according to the latest Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) data. The manufacturing PMI edged down to 50.3 in April from 50.4 in March, based on figures updated on 30 April 2026.

While the 50-point threshold separates expansion from contraction, the marginal dip suggests that growth in China’s factory activity continues but at a very modest pace. The near-flat movement between March and April indicates a broadly stable manufacturing environment, with no sharp deterioration but also limited signs of acceleration.

Investors and analysts are likely to interpret the April reading as confirmation that China’s manufacturing recovery remains fragile, with the sector hovering just above the expansion line for a second consecutive month.
