Norway Consumer Morale Worsens in Q2

Norway’s consumer confidence index fell to -20.0 in Q2 2026, down from an upwardly revised -12.4 in the previous quarter. This was the seventeenth consecutive quarter in negative territory and the weakest reading since Q1 2024. The decline was driven by a sharp deterioration in expectations for the national economy, both over the past twelve months (-47.0 vs -31.7 in Q1) and the coming twelve months (-35.0 vs -20.1). In addition, households’ expectations for their personal finances one year ahead turned negative (-4.0 vs 9.5), while their assessment of their financial situation over the past year also worsened (-9.0 vs 0.5). Sentiment around major purchases weakened further as well, with that subindex dropping to -16.0 from -11.2.
