Lithuania’s retail sector recorded a sharp slowdown in April 2026, with month-over-month sales growth easing to 4.5%, down markedly from a revised 17.8% increase in March. The latest data, updated on 28 May 2026, highlight a normalization in consumer activity following an exceptionally strong surge in the previous month.
On a month-over-month basis, the April figure reflects continued expansion in retail trade, but at a far more moderate pace compared with March, when sales jumped by 17.8% versus February. The new 4.5% reading indicates that, while consumer spending remains on an upward trajectory, the intensity of growth has cooled significantly after the earlier spike.
The comparison underscores the volatility in short-term retail dynamics: March’s outsized gain set a high bar for subsequent performance, making April’s more restrained growth appear subdued in contrast, even as the sector continues to expand.
