German Inflation Cools Further in May as CPI Slips to 2.6% YoY

Germany’s inflation rate eased again in May, with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) slowing to 2.6% year-over-year from 2.9% in April 2026, according to data updated on 29 May 2026. The figures, measured on an annual comparison basis, show a continued loss of momentum in price growth across Europe’s largest economy.

The current 2.6% reading reflects the change in prices in May 2026 versus May 2025, while the previous 2.9% rate captured April 2026 price levels relative to April 2025. The gradual decline suggests inflationary pressures are continuing to moderate, potentially easing some of the strain on consumers and giving policymakers more room to assess the trajectory of price stability going into the second half of the year.
