Austria Inflation at 5-Month High

Austria’s annual inflation rate accelerated to 3.7% year-on-year in May 2026, up from 3.4% in April, reaching its highest level since December 2025, according to preliminary estimates. The main driver of this increase was services inflation, which rose to 4.4% from 4.1% in April, partly reflecting higher airline ticket prices. Prices for industrial goods also picked up, with inflation rising to 1.4% from 0.8%. In contrast, energy-related costs grew at a slower pace: gasoline inflation moderated, while diesel and heating oil prices declined compared with the previous month. Inflation for food, beverages, and tobacco also eased, slipping to 2.4% from 2.6%. On a monthly basis, consumer price growth slowed to 0.1% in May from 0.4% in the prior month.
