FX.co ★ Baltic Dry Index Falls for 5th Session

The Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk freight index, which tracks spot rates for ships transporting dry bulk commodities, declined 2.8% from the previous session to 3,037. This marked the fifth straight session of losses since the gauge reached a more than two-and-a-half-year high of 3,227. The index for capesize vessels—typically deployed in the iron ore and coal trades—dropped 4.1% to 5,040, mirroring weakness in the iron ore market. The panamax index slipped 36 points to 2,254, while the supramax index edged up by 1 point to 1,584.
