Mongolia Inflation Rate Hits 3-Year High

Mongolia’s annual inflation rate quickened to 11.2% year-on-year in May 2026, up from 10.1% in April, marking the highest reading since May 2023. Price growth accelerated notably in food and non-alcoholic beverages (23.4% vs 19.7% in April), and continued to pick up in clothing and footwear (6.8% vs 6.4%), health (7.1% vs 6.9%), communication (1.6% vs 1.5%), restaurants and hotels (11% vs 10.4%), and alcoholic beverages and tobacco (11.4% vs 10.2%).

By contrast, inflation eased slightly in furnishings, household equipment and tools (7.8% vs 7.9%), transport (5.8% vs 5.9%), recreation and culture (6.3% vs 6.6%), and miscellaneous goods and services (9.8% vs 9.9%). It was unchanged in education (12.8%) and in insurance and financial services (17%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 1.2% in May, slowing from a 2.8% increase in April.
