Dutch Consumer Morale Improves in June

Consumer confidence in the Netherlands improved to -39 in June 2026 from -46 in May, but sentiment remained deeply negative and far below the long-term average of -11. The uptick was mainly driven by less pessimistic views on the economic climate, with that component rising to -64 from -72. Willingness to buy also increased, improving to -22 from -28.

Assessments of the economic situation over the past 12 months became less negative, moving to -69 from -75, while expectations for the coming 12 months improved to -60 from -69. Households’ views of their own finances also strengthened: the assessment of their financial situation over the past year improved to -16 from -22, and expectations for the year ahead rose markedly to -6 from -17. By contrast, perceptions of whether it is a good time to make major purchases remained largely unchanged, at -44 versus -45 in May.
