Latvia’s retail sector showed tentative signs of stabilization in May 2026, as the pace of decline in retail sales slowed compared with the previous month. Month-over-month retail sales slipped 0.10% in May, an improvement from April’s 0.40% drop, according to data updated on 30 June 2026.
The figures indicate that while consumer demand remains under pressure, the worst of the recent downturn may be easing. The “actual” May reading reflects the change in sales versus April, whereas the “previous” figure for April measured the change from March. The softening contraction suggests that headwinds facing Latvian retailers—such as cautious household spending—may be moderating, though the sector has yet to return to outright growth.
