Slovenia posted a trade deficit of EUR 1,154.1 million in May 2026, a sharp deterioration from the EUR 4.1 million gap recorded a year earlier, amid a surge in trade with non-EU countries. Imports jumped 38.6% year-on-year to EUR 7,520.7 million, fuelled by a 67.8% increase in purchases from non-EU markets, while imports from EU member states rose 8.9%. Exports advanced 17.6% to EUR 6,366.6 million, underpinned by a 28.2% rise in shipments to non-EU destinations, compared with 6.3% growth in exports to EU countries. Over the first five months of 2026, Slovenia’s trade balance moved from a surplus of EUR 2,447.7 million to a deficit of EUR 3,920.9 million, as exports declined 13.7% and imports grew 7.2%.
