U.S. Services New Orders Cool in June, ISM Gauge Eases from Recent Highs

New orders in the U.S. services sector lost some momentum in June, as the ISM Non-Manufacturing New Orders Index eased to 55.1 from 57.3 in May 2026.

While still comfortably above the 50-point threshold that separates expansion from contraction, the June reading points to a slower pace of growth in fresh demand for services compared with the previous month. The May figure of 57.3 had marked a stronger expansion, highlighting a moderation in activity heading into the summer.

The latest data, updated on 06 July 2026, suggest that the services side of the U.S. economy continues to grow, but with less vigor than earlier in the second quarter, a shift that market participants may watch closely for signals on the trajectory of overall economic growth and business confidence in the coming months.
