Mexico Auto Output Declines in June

Mexico’s automobile production fell 1.9% year-on-year to 354,221 units in June 2026, moderating from a 3.7% contraction in May. The decline underscored persistent uncertainty in the auto industry, as shifting US trade policies continued to disrupt manufacturers’ production planning.

In his second term, US President Trump imposed a new wave of tariffs on several countries, including Mexico. Although the Trump administration opted not to renew the USMCA, the agreement will remain in effect for another decade unless one of the member countries withdraws. During this period, it will be subject to annual reviews that could result in substantial revisions. In parallel, the US and Mexico have been engaged in ongoing bilateral trade talks.

By manufacturer, output dropped particularly sharply at Mercedes (-97%), followed by Audi (-52.2%), Nissan (-18.6%), Volkswagen (-7.6%), and Ford (-7.3%).
