Baltic Dry Index Up for 4th Day

The Baltic Exchange's dry bulk freight index, which tracks rates for vessels transporting dry bulk commodities, rose for a fourth consecutive session on Tuesday, gaining about 0.7% to 2,980 points—its highest level since June 5. The advance was supported by increases across all vessel segments.

The capesize index, covering ships that typically carry 150,000-ton cargoes such as iron ore and coal, climbed for the fourth straight day, adding 1% to reach 4,751 points, its highest reading in more than a month. The panamax index, which reflects rates for vessels hauling about 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, inched up 0.1% to 2,251 points.

Among smaller vessels, the supramax index rose 0.2% to 1,710 points, marking its strongest level since June 2022.
