Moldova Industrial Output Growth Slows in May

Industrial production in Moldova increased by 8.2% year-on-year in May 2026, slowing from a downwardly revised 10.5% rise in April and marking the weakest expansion in three months. The moderation was mainly driven by softer growth in manufacturing (7.6% vs 8.4% in April), with notable slowdowns in the production of pharmaceutical products (11.9% vs 15.3%), electrical equipment (6.7% vs 22.5%), metal structures and metal products (32.5% vs 66.4%), and other industrial activities (10.6% vs 18.3%). In addition, output fell in the production of dairy products (-5.6% vs 5.9%) and in printing and reproduction of recorded media (-9.4% vs 22.8%).

There was also a sharp deceleration in activity in the electricity, gas, steam, and air-conditioning supply sector, which rose by 11.0% after surging 36.1% in April. By contrast, output in mining and quarrying accelerated, expanding 22.4% compared with 13.4% in the previous month.

On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, industrial production rebounded by 1.9% in May, following an 11.7% contraction in April. Over the first five months of 2026 (January–May), industrial output was up 7.2% compared with the same period a year earlier.
