Speculators Extend Bullish Bets on Brazil’s Real as CFTC Net Longs Edge Higher

Speculative positioning in Brazil’s currency strengthened further, with traders increasing their net long exposure to the real, according to the latest data from the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC).

Net speculative positions in BRL futures and options rose to 32.8K contracts, up from 30.8K previously. The data, updated on 17 July 2026, signal a modest but clear build-up in bullish sentiment toward Brazil’s currency.

The uptick in net longs suggests that market participants are maintaining or adding to their positive view on the real, potentially reflecting expectations of supportive domestic conditions or relative attractiveness compared with other emerging market currencies.
