The June reading marks a moderation in price pressures when compared with the same month a year earlier, extending the downward move from May’s year-over-year pace. Both the current and previous figures are measured on a Year-over-Year basis, comparing each month’s price level to that of the corresponding month in the prior year.
The latest data indicate that, on this basis, inflation in Canada continued to decelerate into early summer, potentially easing some pressure on households and informing expectations around future monetary policy decisions.
