Hungary Trade Surplus Widens Sharply in June

Hungary’s trade balance recorded a surplus of EUR 1,305.4 million in June 2026, a sharp increase from EUR 786.8 million in the same month a year earlier, as export growth outpaced that of imports. Exports rose by 21% year-on-year to EUR 14,944.5 million, driven mainly by higher shipments of machinery and transport equipment, as well as food, beverages, and tobacco, more than offsetting a decline in energy carrier exports. By trading partner, exports expanded both to EU countries (+6.8%) and to non-EU markets (+11%).

Imports increased by 18% to EUR 13,639.0 million, supported by stronger purchases of processed products and of machinery and transport equipment. Import growth was recorded from both EU partners (+3.4%) and non-EU countries (+12%). Over the first half of 2026, the trade surplus narrowed to EUR 5,044.6 million from EUR 5,749.3 million a year earlier, as exports grew by 8.3% while imports increased at a faster pace of 10%.
