US Real Consumer Spending Holds Steady at 0.4% in June

Inflation-adjusted US personal spending rose 0.4% month-over-month in June 2026, matching May’s increase. Goods spending picked up to 0.7% from 0.6%, supported by stronger outlays on motor vehicles and parts (2.2% vs. 1.9%), gasoline and other energy goods (0.7% vs. -3.3%), and clothing and footwear (1.3% vs. 0.9%). Services spending advanced 0.3%, the same pace as in May. Faster growth in recreation services (0.9% vs. 0.2%) and financial services and insurance (0.6% vs. 0.4%) offset weaker gains in food services and accommodations (0.3% vs. 0.9%) and flat spending on housing and utilities (0.0% vs. 0.2%). Expenditures on health care and transportation services were unchanged at 0.3% each.
