Indonesian Stocks on Course for Fifth Weekly Rise

Indonesian shares climbed 33 points, or 0.5%, to 6,377 in Friday morning trade, rebounding from a modest decline in the previous session, supported by sectoral gains in energy, property, and infrastructure. Upside momentum was partly capped by weaker U.S. stock futures ahead of the July jobs report, while geopolitical risks persisted following reports that Iran sought to restrict U.S. and Israeli vessels from transiting the Strait of Hormuz and to demand compensation from countries it considers hostile. Investor caution also increased ahead of the release of July trade data from China, Indonesia’s top trading partner, with markets bracing for softer export and import figures due to weather-related disruptions. Early outperformers included Indosat (up 6.8%), Mitra Keluarga (4.7%), and Bumi Resources (2.8%). For the week, the benchmark index remained on course for a fifth consecutive gain, underpinned by buying interest tied to governance reforms under President Prabowo’s flagship agenda. Meanwhile, July headline inflation eased to a three-month low, reinforcing the view that cost pressures remain contained.
