US Mortgage Rates Fall Last Week: MBA

The average 30-year fixed mortgage rate on loans up to $806,500 in the US edged down by 4 basis points to 6.77% in the week ended August 7, 2026, from 6.81% the previous week, which had been the highest level in a year, according to the Mortgage Bankers Association. The pullback in rates followed a decline in Treasury yields after a weaker-than-expected jobs report tempered expectations of an imminent Fed rate hike. Mortgage applications rose 3.6%, the first increase in three weeks, with purchase applications up 2.5% and refinancing applications climbing 5%.
