US Core Consumer Prices Rise as Expected

In July 2026, core consumer prices in the United States—which exclude food and energy—rose by 0.2% from the previous month, rebounding from a flat reading in June and matching market expectations. Notable increases were recorded in prices for medical care commodities (up 0.6% after a 0.1% decline in June), transportation services (up 0.3% after a 0.3% decrease), and used cars and trucks (up 0.4% after a 0.2% decline). In contrast, shelter inflation remained subdued, with prices edging up by 0.1%, the same pace as in June. On an annual basis, core consumer prices increased by 2.5%.
