Baltic Dry Index Snaps 7-Day Winning Streak

The Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk freight index, which measures rates for ships transporting dry bulk commodities, declined about 0.9% to 3,157 points on Tuesday, ending a seven-session winning streak. The capesize index, reflecting earnings for vessels that typically carry 150,000-ton cargoes of iron ore and coal, also broke a seven-day run of gains, falling 2.1% to 5,221 points. By contrast, the panamax index, which tracks ships hauling about 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, rose 1.9% to 2,360 points, its seventh consecutive advance. The supramax index inched up 0.2% to 1,650 points.
