Norway Current Account Surplus Largest in Over 3 Years

Norway’s current account posted a surplus of NOK 279 billion in the second quarter of 2026, the largest since the first quarter of 2023 and up from NOK 185 billion in the same period a year earlier. The improvement was mainly driven by a wider goods surplus, which rose to NOK 242.5 billion from NOK 149 billion, while the services deficit narrowed to NOK 10.3 billion from NOK 17.7 billion. At the same time, the deficit in current transfers (secondary income) shrank to NOK 12.5 billion from NOK 20.4 billion. In contrast, the surplus in primary income — comprising compensation of employees and investment income — fell to NOK 59.3 billion from NOK 74.1 billion a year earlier.
