Germany Composite PMI Revised Up in August

The S&P Global Germany Composite PMI was revised up to 51.8 in August 2026, from a preliminary estimate of 51.0 and compared with 51.3 in July. This signaled the strongest expansion in private-sector activity in five months, driven chiefly by a notable improvement in manufacturing. The manufacturing PMI climbed to a 2026 high of 54.2, from 52.2 in July. By contrast, the services sector remained in mild contraction, with its PMI edging down to 49.7 from 49.8.

August saw broad-based increases in both total new business and export sales, while business confidence also improved, again largely supported by the goods-producing sector. Employment returned to growth as a renewed rise in services staffing coincided with a slower rate of job losses in manufacturing. Input costs increased at the fastest pace in three months, but output price inflation eased to its lowest level since March.
