Uruguay Inflation Edges Higher in August

Uruguay’s annual inflation rate rose to 4.55% in August 2026, up from 4.27% in June. The sharpest price increases were seen in transportation (7.06%), education services (7.02%), restaurants and accommodation services (6.78%), and health (6.52%). Housing-related expenses also climbed markedly, by 5.13%. Food and non-alcoholic beverages went up 3.14%, while prices for alcoholic beverages, tobacco, and narcotics increased 2.98%. By contrast, clothing and footwear registered a 6.21% decline, making it the only category to experience deflation. On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 0.24%, bringing cumulative inflation for the year to 3.65%.
