Slovenia Trade Gap Widens to Nearly 2-Year High

Slovenia posted a trade deficit of EUR 1,580.3 million in July 2026, reversing from a surplus of EUR 479.1 million in the same month a year earlier. This was the largest shortfall since October 2024, as import growth significantly outpaced exports. Imports jumped 49.1% year-on-year to EUR 8,297.5 million, largely due to higher purchases from both EU countries (+5.4%) and non-EU countries (+94.0%). Exports increased 11.3% to EUR 6,717.2 million, supported by stronger shipments to EU markets (+8.6%) and non-EU markets (+13.6%).

Over the January–July period, Slovenia recorded a trade deficit of EUR 5,693.2 million, compared with a surplus of EUR 3,681.6 million in the same period a year earlier. The turnaround was driven by a 6.2% decline in exports, alongside an 11.2% rise in imports.
