Euro Zone GDP Growth Halves to 0.5% in Q2 on Yearly Basis

Euro Zone economic momentum weakened in the second quarter, with year-over-year GDP growth slowing to 0.5%, down from 1.0% recorded in the same quarter a year earlier. The latest figures, updated on 07 September 2026, point to a notable loss of pace in the currency bloc’s expansion.

The current reading means that, compared with the second quarter of 2025, the Euro Zone’s economy grew at only half the rate seen in the previous comparison, when second-quarter 2025 GDP had been 1.0% higher than in the second quarter of 2024. Both the “previous” and “actual” readings are based on a year-over-year comparison, measuring changes in output against the same quarter in the prior year.

The slowdown from 1.0% to 0.5% year-over-year underscores mounting pressures on the Euro Zone economy, as growth cools further and the region shows increasing signs of subdued activity heading into the second half of 2026.
