Sensex Finishes at Over 6-Week Low

India’s BSE Sensex fell around 0.5% to close at 76,132.8 on Monday, its lowest level in more than six weeks, erasing the gains made in the previous session. Market sentiment was pressured by escalating US–Iran tensions, persistently high crude oil prices, and renewed concerns over potential US Federal Reserve rate hikes. The cautious mood was underscored by continued foreign institutional investor selling, as they remained net sellers of equities on Friday.

Rate-sensitive technology counters led the decline, with major IT names such as Infosys, Tech Mahindra and HCLTech dropping between 0.9% and 3.8%. In contrast, infrastructure, telecom and defence stocks showed relative resilience. L&T and Bharti Airtel both advanced about 0.6%, emerging as the session’s notable outperformers.
