China Stocks Track Asian Peers Lower

The Shanghai Composite Index fell 0.5% to 3,932 on Thursday, while the Shenzhen Component declined 0.5% to 13,657, mirroring losses across Asian markets as a renewed surge in oil prices stoked inflation fears. Crude benchmarks remained elevated after Iran signaled it was prepared for a more intense confrontation, and US President Donald Trump dismissed the prospect of a swift resolution to the conflict, saying it was unlikely to end before the November midterm elections.

On the domestic front, investors are increasingly alert to mounting price pressures, with annual consumer inflation accelerating in August as higher food and energy costs filtered through the economy. The uptick has revived concerns about potential supply disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz amid escalating US–Iran tensions.

In corporate trading, major decliners included Foxconn Industrial Internet, down 1.2%; Ping An Insurance, off 1.8%; CATL, which slid 1.5%; and Zhongji Innolight, down 1.8%.
