S Crude Oil Inventories Fall Less than Expected

US crude oil inventories declined by 0.391 million barrels in the week ended September 4, 2026, falling short of market expectations for a 1.6 million-barrel decrease. Stockpiles at the Cushing, Oklahoma, delivery hub dropped by 0.684 million barrels over the same period. Refinery crude runs increased by 90,000 barrels per day.

Gasoline inventories rose by 1.269 million barrels, contrary to forecasts that had projected a draw of 1.4 million barrels. Distillate stockpiles, which include diesel and heating oil, climbed by 2.087 million barrels, compared with expectations for a 0.7 million-barrel decline. Meanwhile, net US crude imports increased by 1.12 million barrels per day.
