Turkey Current Account Surplus Narrows in July

Turkey’s current account surplus narrowed sharply to $0.04 billion in July 2026 from $1.76 billion in the same month a year earlier, falling short of market expectations for a $0.65 billion surplus. The goods account deficit widened to $5.58 billion from $4.56 billion, while the primary income deficit expanded to $2.56 billion from $1.54 billion.

By contrast, the secondary income deficit narrowed to $0.06 billion from $0.15 billion in July 2025, and the services account surplus increased to $8.23 billion from $8.02 billion. Over the first seven months of the year, Turkey posted a current account deficit of $34.83 billion, significantly above the $24.25 billion gap recorded in the same period a year earlier.
