US Crude Oil Inventories Fall Less than Expected

US crude oil inventories declined by 0.64 million barrels in the week ended September 11, 2026, falling short of market expectations for a 1.6 million-barrel draw. Stockpiles at the Cushing, Oklahoma, delivery hub were down by 0.342 million barrels over the same period. Refinery crude runs decreased by 256,000 barrels per day.

Gasoline inventories rose by 0.794 million barrels, defying forecasts for a 1 million-barrel decline. Distillate stockpiles—including diesel and heating oil—increased by 1.585 million barrels, significantly above expectations for a 0.1 million-barrel build. Meanwhile, net US crude imports climbed by 1.18 million barrels per day.
