Taiwan M2 Money Supply Rises 6.8% in August

Taiwan’s M2 money supply rose 6.79% year-on-year in August 2026 to a new record of TWD 70,678 billion, moderating from a 7.42% increase in July. The deceleration was primarily attributable to softer growth in foreign currency deposits and demand deposits. On a monthly basis, M2 expanded 0.65%, while average M2 growth for the first eight months of the year came in at 6.62%.

Meanwhile, lending and investment by all monetary institutions climbed 9.43% year-on-year, up from 9.08% in the previous month, driven mainly by stronger growth in claims on the private sector and public enterprises. When lending and investment by life insurers are included, and after adjusting for bad-debt write-offs transferred by monetary institutions, the broader measure increased 7.69% year-on-year, compared with 7.40% in the previous month.
