Malaysia Leading Index Steady at 0.3% in July

Malaysia’s leading economic index grew 0.3% month-on-month in July 2026, matching June’s upwardly revised increase. The latest rise was supported by continued gains in real imports of other basic precious and non-ferrous metals (0.1% vs 0.9% in June), the number of approved housing units (0.04% vs 0.5%), and real imports of semiconductors (0.1% vs 0.2%). It was further underpinned by a rebound in real money supply M1 (0.1% vs -0.1%) and a recovery in expected manufacturing sales value (0.1% vs -0.4%).

On a year-on-year basis, the leading index rose 1.1%, moderating from an upwardly revised 1.5% in June. In contrast, the coincident index, which tracks current economic conditions, slipped 0.1% month-on-month in July, reversing the 0.3% increase recorded in June.
