China Stocks Tick Higher as PMI Data Looms

The Shanghai Composite Index inched up 0.1% to around 3,828 on Tuesday, while the Shenzhen Component Index rose 0.2% to 12,884, partially recovering from the previous session’s losses as investors awaited a series of official and private PMI readings scheduled for Wednesday. Market participants continued to gauge the resilience of China’s manufacturing sector, which remains underpinned by robust external demand and strength in technology-related industries. This comes despite ongoing headwinds, including pressure on corporate profit margins, weak domestic consumption, sluggish private investment, and a prolonged downturn in the property market. On the corporate front, notable gainers included Cambricon Technologies (up 1.2%), Piotech (1.7%), Zhongji Innolight (0.5%), and Suzhou TFC Optical Communication (0.9%). In contrast, Hygon Information Technology (down 0.9%), China CSSC Holdings (-1.1%), CATL (-1.2%), and BOE Technology (-2.2%) underperformed.
