US stock index futures edged higher on Tuesday, with S&P 500 futures up 0.1%, Dow Jones Industrial Average futures gaining about 80 points, and Nasdaq 100 futures rising 0.4%, after losses in the previous session. Artificial intelligence remained in focus as traders evaluated the outcome of a lunch meeting between US President Trump and industry leaders on AI safety risks. Markets were also watching OpenAI’s DevDay, taking place today.
In other AI-related news, reports on Tuesday noted that Anthropic warned in its IPO prospectus that its AI models could pose a “catastrophic or existential risk to humanity.” At the same time, investors continued to monitor the lack of diplomatic progress in the Middle East, choppy oil prices, and Treasury yields that remain near multi-year highs.
Megacap technology stocks were mixed in premarket trading. Nvidia (+0.7%), Amazon (+0.3%), Broadcom (+0.9%), Meta (+0.9%), Tesla (+0.4%), and Micron (+1.6%) traded higher, while Apple (-0.5%) and Microsoft (-0.1%) edged lower. Alphabet was little changed.
