FX.co ★ Baltic Dry Index Falls to Over 1-Month Low

The Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk freight index, which measures rates for vessels transporting dry bulk commodities, fell about 2.5% on Monday to 3,070 points, its lowest level since August 26, ending a two-session rise. The capesize index, covering ships that typically carry 150,000-ton cargoes such as iron ore and coal, also broke a two-day winning streak, declining 4.2% to 4,833 points, the lowest since August 25. The panamax index, reflecting rates for vessels that usually carry 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, slipped 0.3% to 2,364 points. Among the smaller segments, the supramax index inched up 0.1% to 1,790 points.
