TAIEX Ends at Record High, Nears 49,900

The TAIEX, Taiwan’s benchmark stock index, gained 111 points, or 0.2%, on Tuesday to close at a new record high of 49,823, extending its winning streak to a fifth consecutive session. The broader index finished above the 49,000 mark for the second day in a row, mirroring the upbeat tone on Wall Street overnight, where a strong rally in technology shares set the tone for risk appetite.

Investor momentum was particularly evident in financials, process industries, and technology services. The financial sector advanced 1.2%, supported by gains in Fubon Financial Holding (up 1.6%), Cathay Financial Holding (up 0.5%), and CTBC Financial Holding (up 1.5%). Process industries added 1.4%, led by a 2.5% rise in Nan Ya Plastics Corp., while technology services jumped 3.5%, driven by a 6.5% surge in Wiwynn Corp.

In contrast, the electronic technology sector edged down 0.1%. Nonetheless, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC)—the world’s largest contract chipmaker and a heavyweight that accounts for more than 40% of the local market’s total capitalization—rose 0.4%, helping underpin the index at record levels.
