Singapore Stocks Drop to Over 3-Month Low

Singapore shares slipped 50 points, or 0.9%, to 5,373 by midday Thursday, extending last month’s losses and marking their lowest level since July 8. The downturn mirrored Wednesday’s weakness on Wall Street, where technology stocks led declines after hotter‑than‑expected inflation data heightened expectations of a U.S. Federal Reserve interest rate hike. Sentiment was further dampened by rising oil prices, which reinforced worries about inflation and tighter monetary policy.

Despite these pressures, the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) kept its monetary policy unchanged on Wednesday, following robust Q3 2026 GDP growth of 5.4% year-on-year. Almost all sectors traded lower, including financials, producer manufacturing, commercial services, and energy minerals. Market participants also looked ahead to Friday’s release of September non-oil domestic exports data, after a strong surge in August. Among the notable decliners were Yangzijiang Shipbuilding (-4.1%), Keppel (-2.2%), Singapore Technologies Engineering (-1.6%), DBS Group (-1.3%), and OCBC (-0.7%).
