European Stocks Inch Lower

European stock indices pared earlier losses on Tuesday but still ended marginally lower, as weakness in heavyweight technology and industrial shares outweighed gains elsewhere. The Euro STOXX 50 slipped 0.4% to 6,124, while the STOXX Europe 600 edged down 0.1% to 639.

ASML declined 2.2%, extending its recent volatility after the disappointing IPO of AI infrastructure developer Elice in Seoul signaled growing investor skepticism about the AI sector’s escalating financing needs. Companies with significant exposure to data center operations also retreated, with Siemens, Schneider Electric, and Siemens Energy falling by as much as 3.3%.

In contrast, pharmaceutical stocks finished notably higher. Sanofi gained 3%, and Argenx rallied 6%, helping to offset some of the broader market’s tech- and industry-led weakness.
