Dutch Consumer Confidence Falls Slightly in October

Consumer confidence in the Netherlands inched down to -34 in October 2026, from September’s six‑month high of -33. The economic climate sub‑indicator also deteriorated, slipping to -59 from -58 in the previous month, as consumers became more pessimistic about the economy over the past 12 months (-67 vs. -65), while their outlook for the next 12 months remained unchanged at -50.

Willingness to buy weakened slightly, easing to -18 from -17. This reflected a more negative view of households’ financial situations, both over the past 12 months (-19 vs. -16) and the coming 12 months (-2 vs. 0). Nevertheless, perceptions of the timing for major purchases—such as furniture and electronics—improved marginally, with this indicator rising to -34 in October from -35 in September.
