Eurozone Growth Momentum Eases as October Composite PMI Slips to 51.9

Business activity in the euro area expanded at a slower pace in October, as the HCOB Eurozone Composite PMI edged down to 51.9 from 53.1 in September 2026. The latest reading, released on 23 October 2026, still signals overall growth in the private sector but points to a moderation in momentum.

The decline from September’s level suggests that while the eurozone economy continues to grow, the pace of expansion has cooled. With the index remaining above the 50-point threshold that separates growth from contraction, the data indicate that both manufacturing and services are still contributing positively, albeit less strongly than in the previous month.

Investors and policymakers are likely to watch upcoming data closely for signs of whether this slowdown is temporary or the start of a more sustained loss of economic traction across the currency bloc.
