US Wholesale Inventories Rise More than Expected

US wholesale inventories rose 0.6% month-over-month to $941.5 billion in September 2026, following a 0.5% increase in August and exceeding market expectations for a 0.5% gain, according to advance estimates. If confirmed, this would represent the eighth straight monthly increase, pointing to a continued buildup of goods in the wholesale sector. The advance was broad-based: inventories of nondurable goods climbed 0.9%, while durable goods inventories grew 0.4%. On a yearly basis, wholesale inventories in September are estimated to be 7.4% higher than in the same month a year earlier.
