Hungary Swings to Trade Surplus in September, Snapping Previous Deficit

Hungary’s trade position recorded a sharp turnaround in September 2026, moving from deficit to surplus on a month-over-month basis. According to the latest data updated on 29 October 2026, the country’s trade balance rose to a surplus of EUR 907.0 million in September, following a deficit of EUR -481.0 million in August 2026.

The month-over-month comparison highlights a substantial improvement in Hungary’s external balance between August and September. While August had reflected a negative trade gap versus the prior month, September’s reading indicates that exports outpaced imports by a wide margin, reversing the previous shortfall. Investors and analysts tracking Hungary’s external accounts will now be watching upcoming releases to see if this positive trade momentum can be sustained into the final quarter of 2026.
